Who we are
ByeWall is made and published by Basalt (hellobasalt.dev), an independent software studio. Basalt is responsible for this website and for the ByeWall browser extension. Questions, privacy requests and bug reports go to support@hellobasalt.dev.
The short version
ByeWall has no accounts, no analytics, no cookies, no advertising and no ByeWall server. The extension only acts when you ask it to, and the only thing it sends anywhere is the page address you chose, to the archive provider you chose.
What leaves your browser
When you open an archive, your selected page address is sent to that provider (Archive.today at archive.is, or the Internet Archive at web.archive.org). The provider receives normal web-request information, such as your IP address and browser details, and may use cookies or verification challenges. Its own privacy practices apply, and Basalt does not receive any of this. Nothing else is sent: ByeWall does not read page content and does not send data to Basalt.
What the extension keeps
The extension does not use browser storage, so it saves no settings, no reading history and no list of addresses. Article addresses are processed locally. A page address is held in memory only while a lookup opens, and a short in-memory note of the last lookup (about one second) stops accidental double tabs. When the archive options page receives an address, it removes it from its own history entry right after loading. Your browser history and the archive providers may still record the pages you open. Copy actions write the selected link to your system clipboard at your request. On first install, ByeWall opens a welcome page that is part of the extension and loads nothing from the web.
Safer addresses
ByeWall removes recognized tracking parameters and page fragments, and blocks browser-internal, local, IP-based, custom-port, credential-bearing and recognized sensitive-token addresses. These checks cannot identify every private page. Only open public article links you intend to share with the chosen archive.
Permissions
activeTab reads the selected page address when you invoke ByeWall. contextMenus adds right-click actions. ByeWall does not request access to all websites or your full browsing history. Because the address you choose is sent to an archive provider, the Firefox listing declares that browsing activity is transmitted at your request.
Public snapshots
Lookups do not automatically submit new captures. The separate “Continue to submission page” action shares the article address with Archive.today for potential public archiving. Do not submit private content.
This website
This website is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes normal request information, including IP addresses, the requested page and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy and may process it in countries other than yours. Basalt adds no logging of its own. The site has no analytics scripts, no cookies, no forms, no third-party fonts or scripts and no advertising. Extension packages and checksums offered for download are served from the same site. Links to other sites, including the Firefox Add-ons listing, GitHub, X, YouTube and other Basalt products, take you to services with their own privacy policies. The earlier workers.dev address of this site simply redirects to byewall.hellobasalt.dev.
If you email us
If you write to support@hellobasalt.dev, Basalt receives your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to answer you and keep it for as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up. We do not sell it or share it for marketing.
Why and with whom
The extension processes a page address only to carry out the lookup you requested. The website processes request data only through Cloudflare, to serve and secure the site, which is our legitimate interest in running a safe service. We process emails to respond to your request. We do not sell personal data. The recipients are Cloudflare for site delivery, the archive provider you choose for lookups, and our email service for support mail.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under Türkiye’s KVKK and the EU and UK GDPR, you may ask whether we hold data about you, ask for access, correction or deletion, and object to processing. Write to support@hellobasalt.dev. Basalt holds no account or reading data about extension users, so for data an archive provider or your browser keeps, contact them directly. You may also complain to your data protection authority, such as the Turkish Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) or your local supervisory authority.
Changes
If ByeWall’s behavior or this policy changes, this page and the date above are updated, and the same text ships with the extension.
